The plan to destroy Syria was the subject of a conversation held by the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America-People’s Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP), in conjunction with the Bolivarian Military Academy of Venezuela.
Venezuela’s ambassador to Syria, José Gregorio Biomorgi, kicked off the conference on Syria and its role in current geopolitics. Biomorgi began by highlighting the centrality of Syria’s geographical location, which allows the connection of several countries with the Mediterranean, making it a strategic territory for capitalist and imperial objectives.
“That gives Syria a special character as a link country between East Asia and the Mediterranean,” the diplomat said, recalling that since 1997 the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) had arranged to invade different territories, including Syria.
Biomorgi affirmed that in Syria there has not been a civil war, but rather a US-sponsored “terrorist war” using “internal and external means to destroy them”.
The Ambassador asserted that the plan against Syria is not new, but that the United States has rescaled its interventions while financing terrorist groups in the Middle East. Syria is currently dominated by a terrorist movement.
The crisis in Syria has some of its roots in the failure to support the invasion of Iraq. “The U.S. never forgave Syria for not supporting the invasion of Iraq and lending its territory for logistical support,” Biomorgi detailed.
The crisis continues to cause suffering both to people living in the country and to those who have been forced to flee because of the hopelessness sown by imperialist forces.
“That’s what the empire works to demoralize, to make young people say: ‘there is no future, I’m leaving’. That’s what was applied in Syria (a country which has experienced 13 years of war),” stated the Ambassador.
Biomorgi urged Venezuelan youth to study in depth the subject of Syria and the countries invaded by the United States, since the same imperialist strategies are applied in those countries and also against the Bolivarian Homeland.
