Venezuela offers $100K reward for capture of Edmundo González

An official reward poster for Edmundo González Urrutia of $100,000 has been posted at all border checkpoints and airports throughout Venezuela.

Venezuelan authorities announced a $100,000 reward for the capture of far-right leader and former presidential candidate Edmundo González Urrutia.

According to an Instagram post by the Scientific, Criminal and Criminalistic Investigations Corps (CICPC), the opposition figure is wanted for the commission of multiple crimes, including: conspiracy, complicity in the use of violent acts, forging of documents, legitimization of capital, ignorance of state institutions, instigation to disobedience of laws and association to commit crimes.

González Urrutia, 75, has spoken about his intention to return to the country, although he has not offered details about his return from Spain, to which he traveled in September 2024, before being granted asylum by the government of Spain in December.

He insists that he will take office on January 10 as “Constitutional President” of Venezuela, despite having been defeated in the July 28 elections by the current president Nicolás Maduro.

González has made calls for the destabilization of the country and his allies have expressed their to see the collapse of the country, as they continue to pressure the U.S. and other governments to impose additional sanctions on Venezuela.
